How to heat your shelter with rocks

Shelter heating with Rocks

Pick a few rocks at least the size of a baseball. Heat rocks for at least an hour. While the rocks are heating dig a hole in your shelter either in the center or under where you will be sleeping.

If the rocks are in the center of your shelter they can remain exposed. If you are placing them under your bed cover the hot rocks with dirt or sand. Cover the rocks a while before you go to bed.

This will allow the moisture to evaporate from the soil prior to you building your bed. If you don’t allow the moisture to evaporate the moisture will be forced into your bedding causing you to be cold and wet by morning.
